Dunedin Community Driving Programme

Driving / Licencing

The Dunedin Community Driving Programme (DCDP) is an initiative designed to help more young people get the supervised practice they need to become safe drivers and assist them to gain their learners, restricted and full drivers licence.

The DCDP aims to:

  • Address issues of disadvantage for learner drivers in the 16-24 age group seeking to get their restricted and full driver licences – this includes access to suitable vehicles, mentors and practice;
  • Improve levels of safe driving for these learner drivers;
  • Positively impact their employability, financial stability, offending (convictions and fines), and confidence.
  • Move participants through the drivers licence system from Restricted to Full Drivers Licence, or obtain learners licence
  • Provide each participant with up to 10 free driving lessons provided by NZTA trained volunteer drivers
  • Provide cars to practice safe driving skills
