English Advantage

Literacy and Numeracy

Work Talk is a four week (48 hour) intensive programme which prepares migrants for entering the New Zealand workforce.

There are three strands:

  1. Learning about expectations of the NZ workplace, basic legislation and employment information, ways of applying for work
  2. Understanding and practising interview skills
  3. Understanding and using appropriate Kiwi English in the workplace

Learners must be actively seeking work, and be confident users of English (intermediate level or above).

At the end of the class hours, each learner is referred to a job mentoring programme if one is available, or is offered a mentor for 6 weeks.

Three months after the course learners will be contacted to give feedback on employment outcomes (e.g. interviewed for a job, gained part time employment)
